This guide will not give you the latest versions of everything, it will give you whatever is in the official repo's, along with an update cacti version that has the Plugin Arch built in. I recommend follow Nagios official Quickstart guide, which does not use apt-get, but download the source code, compile and then install. You can also monitor the Remote Linux System with Nagios with NRPE add-on. Monitoring via something like Nagios is generally considered a best practice. Now install Nagios Plugins and NRPE: yum install nrpe nagios-plugins-all.
